Directions - There are international airports in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, with regular flights from around the world. South African Airways (SAA) is the state airline. In Cape Town a regular bus service every half hour connect the airport and the city centre (about 20 miles). Taxis are available and are represented major car companies.

Health - Visitors to the Kruger National Park should take malaria tablets before arriving, during and after your stay. It is not advisable to swim in rivers and lakes in eastern and northern regions of the country, which may be present bilharzia parasite.

Braai (barbecued meat), prepared at the braai (grill) is more a lifestyle than a culinary experience. The boerewors, chops, steaks or sosalties be grilled, eaten with salad and washed down with beer and wine. Plus: Karoo lamb and sheep, koeksisters, oysters on the half shell, potjiekos, sosaties, among others.

Currency - Rand.

Language - There are 11 official languages. Everyone speaks English.

Transportation - Public transport is erratic and uncertain. If you need, use it during the day, but take taxis after dark. Metered taxis are abundant but are more expensive, but driving is safer and service more reliable. They cannot be stopped in the street, you must call by phone.

Some cities like Cape Town and Durban are tuk-tuks or rikkis, small open cars, which will pick you up or you will, on request, at your door.
